What's In Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket?

Also known as: What sewing projects are on my living floor / couch / ironing board right now?

1. I started a 50s style dress for Easter.

I'm making the green one, option C, with a white collar, probably out of batiste.

2. I've been working on my black and gold corset and vest combination for my airship 'uniform'

3. And I decided that I needed my Edwardian corset and drawers for SES as well

I'm using the corset from Festive Attyre. I had issues enlarging it on a copy machine (it lost all detail) so I bought a yard of quilter's grid and enlarged it myself. I felt quite accomplished!

In other news, I just ordered a whole bunch of sewing supplies! I am now the proud owner of nine yards of cotton plaid for a Civil War dress, one yard of cotton (maybe - gonna do a burn test) for a Civil War corset it if is indeed cotton or a work skirt if it's not, a boxful of corset and hoop making supplies, and a boxful of Truly Victorian patterns! I got the polonaise, the 1870s and the 1880s underskirts, the Victorian petticoats, the Civil War darted bodice and the ballgown bodice, and a hoop cage pattern. I think that's everything...

 And I attended the Regency Exhibition Ball last weekend, with a friend from the Archon. I'll post more about it next week. :)

What's in Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket - Thanksgiving Edition

Here's what I'm taking home this week to work on over the holiday:

1. Fleece for the pajama pants for my cousin's boys (still need a pattern)
2. Pajama pants for my brother and nephew so I can put the elastic in and fit them. My nephew's look really small, I hope they fit :/
3. 18th century stays pattern along with material. I'd love to cut the interlining and do a fitting but don't know if that'll happen
4. Corduroy tailcoat I made for my former beau's steampunk Joker costume. I'm going to start ripping it apart so I can make myself something (details to follow on that!)
5. Oh, and the embroidery I bought in Plymouth
6. And I plan to have the materials for my friend's baby gift (which I need to buy today) so I can work on that as well. I was given little notice for the shower so it's gonna be a rush job!

I know I won't get to everything, but that's okay.

And of course, my mother's finished scrub top. I just hope she likes it.

What I Did on my Christmas Vacation

One: Made a hat. (see previous post for hat-porn pictures!)

Two: Pretty much finished my SSHarleyQuinn corset. I'm thinking that safety pinning the bra cups in is the way to go... Other than the bra cups its DONE

Three: Worked on my embroidered quilt. Block #11 is done except for the border!

Four: Fixed the buttons on my dearest brother's coat. I am in fact quite incapable of telling my 'big' brother "no"

Five: Wore my Christmas nightgown on Christmas Eve. Also wore my "Wilde Side" and "Christmas Elf" leggings that I made. :)

Six: Bought fabric to make a baby quilt for my cousin.

It's Almost Christmas!

1. Embroidered quilt: Still working on block #11. *cue sigh* I don't think it's going to be done before I go home for the holidays.
2.  Keeper of the Keys corset: Still pinned and not put together
3. Suspenders for my femme Joker. - Still not done.
4. Suicide Squad Harley Quinn hasn't been worked on either.... I don't know if I'll be able to get this done on time, not because of the costume construction but because the company I get my tights etc from is out of what I need.
5. New bodice for my black and silver steampunk is DONE
6. And I decided that I needed a new skirt to match ... Also DONE. Had a sewing day at my friends' house and pretty much pounded this out. It has a silver plaid waistband and bias hem. I couldn't find my horsehair braid so it has around a 4 inch wide hem facing of the same red taffeta I used to line the bodice. And some decorative stitching, courtesy of my friends fancy sewing machine.
7. New Tour Wear leggings: DONE

Now I really want a hat to go with my new steampunk...

And it's a Build Day tomorrow! I plan to work on: embroidery, maybe hat construction, maybe scrapbooking. Pretty much anything that doesn't need a sewing machine because I want to be upstairs with my friends and not buried in the sewing room (basement).

On the scrapbooking topic -- I just printed the last three shows of AAR pictures. Time to start volume 2 of my scrapbook! It was decided that volume 1 was big enough already lol

Progress and What's In Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket: Thanksgiving Edition

1. Embroidered quilt: Block #10 is DONE, started block #11. I'm still feeling on track for Christmas. This is definitely going home with me for Thanksgiving, so hopefully I'll get some work done then.
2.  Keeper of the Keys corset will probably get worked on Thanksgiving or post Thanksgiving. My dad has more boning for me so once that's done I can start putting it all together.
3. Suspenders for my femme Joker. Haven't started because Joanns was out of what I needed and I haven't gone back and bought the stuff yet.
4. Suicide Squad Harley Quinn hasn't been worked on this week. I still need to - alter the front of the corset, line the corset, put in the bra cups and lacings, finish the shorts, make the collar, order what I need...
5. New bodice for my black and silver steampunk is actually approaching completion. The collar is done and sewn on. The bottom edges have been trimmed in bias. I still need to - finish the armholes, finish the inside where the pleats are, finish the outside where the pleats are (decorating w a little left over trim), figure out what kind of lacing I'm doing in the front, decide if I'm trimming the front with ribbon or not, decide if I'm adding a ruffle to the back or not...
6. Soldiers Angels pillowcases and blankets still need worked on. Honestly, I didn't make pillowcases this week because I didn't feel like changing out my thread in the machine. I did start on quilt top #2 though. 
7. New Tour Wear leggings because I'm seeing the Rejects in less than three weeks in Maryland! Planning on buying some stretch velvet in green. It's a Christmas show, I want to look like an elf. lol

In my sewing bag for Thanksgiving: embroidered quilt, along w a ruler and marker to mark the block edges for stitching; Keeper of the Keys corset and that's probably it since I won't be home long. Oh maybe the leggings to at least cut them out. And maybe the pillowcases cuz those would be a quick and easy project while I'm home.

What Miss Wilde Did This Weekend

Okay, ladies and gents, while a lot of you were away at conventions, I was sitting around in my pajamas sewing and watching copious amounts of Doctor Who at my parents house. :)

1. My embroidered quilt - Finished another block. I think I have three more to go.
2. The embroidered quilt for my nephew - Worked on this. I'm going to need to pick up a few colors of floss, because most of what I have is pink, green, blue, yellow and purple. I could use some browns and some black.
3. Miss Joker suit and blouse - This is swiftly approaching done-ness. The skirt just needs hemmed and the blouse needs hemmed with elastic to keep it in place. I also bought shoes, just cute black wedges that I'm going to make gaudy shoe clips for, probably in orange. And the tie needs a little work as well.
4. Keeper of the Keys waist cincher - Drew on the stitching lines for the boning
5. Quilting supplies - I cut a bunch of 4 1/2 and 5 1/4 inch squares to start making Ohio Star blocks for a scrap quilt.
6. Leggings fabric - I cut out the first pair of leggings, the cream ones from a remnant. And pinned the first seam.
7. Christmas nightgown and some lace - I cut out the ruffle and the yoke from burgundy broadcloth and starting the pinning.
8. Nursing cover - Started the pinning.
9. Tour Wear 'pretty in pink' tunic - Bodice is pinned together for the first stage of sewing and the skirt is cut out. I decided to go with a square.
10. Halloween skirt - I cut out and pinned together the tab that I need to finish the waistband, but didn't have any blue thread so I couldn't sew it.

I also helped my mom pin the quilt she's making the baby. And got the leftover fabric for my troubles. I'm totally okay with fabric as payment. :)

I also went shopping and picked up - black spangled knit fabric to make Pepper some leggings, snow leopard print knit fabric to make myself a pair of leggings, an awesome Halloween print that's going to be a tunic, two patterns (for the leggings and a tunic pattern), notions for the nursing cover (boning, D rings), burgundy broadcloth for my Chirstmas nightgown, and some embroidery floss for my quilt.

Labor Day Weekend Packing

It's completely normal to pack one bag of clothes, take some laundry and pack two bags of sewing projects for a weekend at your parents' house, right?

In Miss Wilde's world it is!

Here's what's packed for the weekend:

1. My embroidered quilt
2. The embroidered quilt for my nephew
3. Miss Joker suit and blouse (still need to decide if I'm doing real buttons w buttonholes or snaps and faux buttons on the blouse)
4. Keeper of the Keys waist cincher (cut out the lining and the interlining yesterday, white broadcloth and white denim respectively last night) and 'boning'
5. Quilting supplies
6. Leggings fabric
7. Christmas nightgown and some lace
8. Nursing cover
9. Tour Wear 'pretty in pink' tunic
10. Halloween skirt

That should keep me entertained and out of trouble, right? 

Fabric Shopping and What's In Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket

Fabric Shopping - A friend and I ventured out to the fabric store last evening. I purchases a few clearance items (a Disney Fairies pencil case that will probably be used for makeup, a black and white striped bow that I plan to attach to my Diamonds are Forever top hat, and two spools of thread); a bright orange organza remnant for my Miss Joker jacket lining; a cream rayon / spandex knit remnant to try out that leggings pattern when I get it (waiting for a sale!); a zipper for my Miss Joker skirt; and two yards of a bright pink extra wide cotton for a Tour Wear tunic which may also be used for a sundress skirt.

Progress - After shopping, I came home and worked on projects aka I worked on Miss Joker: The orange organza lining will need backed, so I pulled out some broadcloth and cut the jacket lining out of both the broadcloth and the organza. I also cut out some sleeve lining out of a purple striped lining fabric because I feel that the jacket fabric is going to be too scratchy on my arms. I cut out the skirt waistband, both out of denim and the skirt fabric, and started putting it together. And I also used broadcloth to cut out the interfacing for the blouse collar, collar stand and front band. The jacket collar has been cut out of the suiting and some black cotton for the interfacing. Oh and I decided to not take in the jacket because I'm afraid that if I do take it in that it will be too small. It's perfect across the shoulders so I'm leaving it alone. I think the collar is going to be trimmed in the orange organza, just a small ruffle.

What's in Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket - The office is going to be quiet this week, so last night I packed up my sewing basket. (1) Almost every piece of my Miss Joker suit. I'm planning to hand baste the lining and probably all the interfaced blouse pieces. I also want to work on the skirt waistband and zipper. (2) Halloween skirt so I can go ahead and get the zipper done. (3) Fabric and pattern for the nursing cover for my sister in law. (4) Fabric and pattern for the Christmas nightgown to see what I can do.

To Do List:

• Halloween skirt: Finish the zipper.
• Miss Joker: Hand baste lining and pin the lining together for stitching. Pin together sleeve lining for stitching. Baste blouse interfacing. Baste jacket collar interfacing. Sew on skirt waistband. Put in skirt zipper. 
• Nursing cover: Cut out brown flannel and paw print flannel for the trim.
• Christmas nightgown: Decide which nightgown to make and cut out the pattern. Also decide what kind of contrast fabric I want to use and where.
• AAR Tour Wear: Prewash fabric. Once that's done, start on tunic. I can at least get that done while waiting for the leggings pattern. 
• Hellhound cosplay

What's In Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket

I packed a lot to work on this weekend, since it's my only sewing machine access for a while:

• The petticoat. I just finished sewing the hem by hand, but I need to add the black ruffle, so the black broadcloth is packed. I also packed the crazy quilt skirt so we can measure the petticoat length for the black ruffle.
• The basque bodice. I need to finish cutting the lining from the broadcloth and start putting it together.
• The blanket.
• The playsuit. Everything's cut out just need to start putting it together. I found lilac thread to use! And I think I'm just gonna with a white zipper.

I'm hoping to get the petticoat done, the blanket sewn together and ready for hand work and the playsuit and the bodice at least started this weekend. I might concentrate on the playsuit first, because I don't see it taking a lot of time.

Here's hoping I get Fern back from the doctor soon...

Pink Jumper Pictures and Crazy Quilt Skirt News!

First up, some pictures of my new pink jumper that I wore yesterday:


As full length of a photo as I could get and I do apologize for the obligatory bathroom cell phone picture, I figured it was better than nothing.

Now I just need a gray blouse...

In other news, I finished ANOTHER panel of my crazy quilt skirt:


And it's nowhere near as purple as it looks in this picture...Stupid lighting.

Besides finishing panel #2 last night, I also worked on my corset. All the pieces (except the lining) are cut out. I decided that what I used for the pattern was not sturdy enough for the lining. It is going to become interlining for the silk, then I'll have a layer of denim then black broadcloth as the corset lining.

What's in Miss Wilde's Sewing Basket for the weekend? (aka my weekend to do list)
1. Pattern, fabric and pompoms for Harley Quinn collar.
2. Teal silk corset, including broadcloth to cut out for the lining.
3. Crazy quilt skirt.
4. I also packed some little bits (such as fake coins) that will be used on my gypsy steampunk costume somewhere.
