Weekend Happenings and Ohayocon Planning

This weekend I worked on the embroidered quilt - only three more blocks to go before assembly time! - and finished my Christmas nightgown! I may still add some lace to the nightgown, but I kind of like it as is. I also prewashed fabric for Pepper's leggings that I'm going to start for her. I bought fabric for the pajama pants that Harley wears in an issue of Gotham City Sirens (I think that's what comic its from...) And...started my Suicide Squad Harley Quinn.

Here's the plan for Harley Quinn:
  • Shorts using Simplicity 2317, with the left side black and the right side red. I may have to alter it a little, but not too much
  • Corset using McCalls 3636, with the front left side red and the right side black, colors reversed on the back of the corset. The corset is going to be drastically altered from the pattern, but I think it'll make a good starting point.
  • I'm working with left over spandex from my bodysuit, which will work perfectly for the shorts but the corset is going to be stabilized with some heavy sturdy fabric.
  • The corset is going to take some engineering and will likely contain interlining and lining along with boning and bra cups (once I figure out what kind of bra cups to use)
  • I'll also need to make a neck ruffle and gauntlets, one red, one black
  • I need to buy two pairs of socks, one red, one black
  • And figure out what I'm doing with my hair and my shoes...
I'm going to start by sewing together the corset out of the interlining and seeing where I need to alter it. I already know that the front is going to change, as is the back because the back dips lower than the front. Then I'll use the altered pieces as my pattern to cut out the spandex.

Sorry for the lack of posts, my friends. I've been rather busy.

Let's see....My last to do list is not done. I basically ran out of time.

  1. I did sew ribbon onto my "I believe in pink" tunic. Unfort. I used seam binding and it did not survive being washed after I wore the tunic so that will have to be replaced with actual ribbon.
  2. I finished the waistband on my "Wilde Side" leggings but left them unhemmed
  3. "Eat drink and be scary" tunic is STILL not finished. I ran into a lot of problems and ended up basically throwing it to the side. It was that, or start crying.
In other news, the cream leggings wore worn to the Cleveland AAR show with a green mini dress. And the "I believe in pink" tunic with the "Wilde Side" leggings were a hit at the Indianapolis show. The boys loved my outfit. :)

After throwing aside the tunic, I pulled out my Christmas nightgown. Which went together pretty much without any issues. All that's left is to hem the ruffle and I'll have a super old fashioned nightgown to wear at Christmas time. Woo hoo!

Next up is another attempt at the "Eat drink and be scary" tunic, then I'm moving on to Ohayocon sewing - Suicide Squad Harley Quinn as well as a new collar for my comic Harley Quinn bodysuit. And maybe new cuffs as well, because mine are almost unwearable.

September 10 2012 To Do List

  1. Nursing cover is DONE!
  2. Miss Joker suit and blouse - Almost there! I need to sew a closure onto the elastic on the blouse, and make the shoe clips. The skirt is hemmed and the tie is ready!
  3. Tour Wear leggings - This is my next project. I need to get the cream leggings made to see if the pattern is going to work before touching the other fabrics I bought for leggings. Although they're Tour Wear I don't think the cream leggings are going to get a name...
  4.  Tour Wear 'I believe in pink' tunic is also ready for construction. I decided to rename this, "I believe in pink" is an Audrey Hepburn quote.
  5.  Tour Wear "Eat, drink and be scary" Halloween tunic is ready for construction.
  6. My embroidered quilt
  7. The embroidered quilt for my nephew - This is as done as I can get it until I buy some grey, brown and black floss.
  8. Halloween skirt - Still need to finish the waistband.
  9. Christmas nightgown is ready for construction.
  10. Keeper of the Keys waist cincher
  11. Quilt blocks are still waiting for me to start my Ohio Star blocks.
So I have a lot of things 'ready for construction'...Guess I should get to constructing then, huh?

Labor Day Weekend Packing

It's completely normal to pack one bag of clothes, take some laundry and pack two bags of sewing projects for a weekend at your parents' house, right?

In Miss Wilde's world it is!

Here's what's packed for the weekend:
  1. My embroidered quilt
  2. The embroidered quilt for my nephew
  3. Miss Joker suit and blouse (still need to decide if I'm doing real buttons w buttonholes or snaps and faux buttons on the blouse)
  4. Keeper of the Keys waist cincher (cut out the lining and the interlining yesterday, white broadcloth and white denim respectively last night) and 'boning'
  5. Quilting supplies
  6. Leggings fabric
  7. Christmas nightgown and some lace
  8. Nursing cover
  9. Tour Wear 'pretty in pink' tunic
  10. Halloween skirt
That should keep me entertained and out of trouble, right?

What Miss Wilde Did This Weekend

  1. Finish the commission. - DONE and will be handed off tomorrow
  2. Halloween skirt - Still need to finish the zipper and closure, but its not a priority. Deadline: October.
  3. Femme Joker - Lots of progress here! Tried on the skirt and took it in. Also made the zipper larger because there was no way to wear that slim of a skirt without a longer zipper. It still needs taken in maybe another half inch. It's also too long. The base of the jacket is put together, but I think it needs some darts in the back to help it fit better. Then comes the collar and the lining (still need to buy lining fabric...) The blouse is cut out, but I haven't started assembly yet. Deadline: end of September
  4. Nursing cover for my sister in law - Fabric has been bought and prewashed. Deadline: probably October-ish.
  5. AAR Tour Wear: I have a leggings pattern picked out, just waiting for it to go on sale. I also have some tunic plans, but will need to purchase fabric for said tunics. Deadline: September / October
  6. Hellhound cosplay: Realized I already have part of it - a blue scarf! I have a jacket pattern picked out but am unsure right now if it'll work or not. Currently thinking jeans, boots, tshirt, scarf and a cool jacket. All I'll probably have to make is the jacket. Oh and a wand. Definitely gonna have to make a wand. Deadline: Don't have one. Maybe end of September, maybe not til January for Ohayocon.
  7. Christmas nightgown: Pulled the fabric and patterns out the other day. I'm going to have to get a matching print to do part of the nightgown in because I definitely don't have enough of the nativity print cotton to do a long nightgown like I want to.  Deadline: Christmas (obviously)

Nativity Fabric Idea

A Christmas nightgown! I have two Simplicity nightgown patterns - Option A. Option B. I really think I should do a Victorian Christmas nightgown with lace and everything. I wonder how much fabric I have...

That is all.

EDIT 6/25 - My mama LOVED this idea. Now to see if I have enough to do it. And finish the other projects I have waiting for me...

Progress on January 2012 Sewing To Do List 4

Our impromptu build day at the house was quite successful this weekend.
  1. Harley Quinn cuffs - are DONE. I stitched on the velcro and elastic so there's no chance of losing them
  2. Star Wars pillowcases for Beau - are DONE and on the bed. They were a quick project, even with finishing the edges with a zigzag.
  3. Spiderman pajama pants for myself - are DONE and waiting to be laundered so I can pack them for Ohayocon. Again, a quick project, but pajama pants usually are.
  4. Star Wars nightgown for myself - is DONE. I finished cutting out the pattern, then put it together, which was a fairly quick project. I used black quilt binding, cut in half lengthwise, for the neck binding; added a band of black flannel to the sleeves because they were too short; and used snaps instead of buttons because I didn't feel like messing with buttonholes and buttons.
  5. I also helped a friend with her Catwoman costume, and moved the ears to a better placement.

So the Current State of the January To Do List is:

  • Finish the steampunk gypsy corset: This is pretty much done except for the D rings I want to add. - Deadline: ASAP
  • Make a bodice for Gemma Fletcher of the Archon: DONE
  • Harley Quinn collar and cuffs: DONE
  • Make Beau a bag for his closet to keep his unmentionables in: Haven't started this yet. - Whenever it gets done.
  • Make Beau and I both pajamas for Ohayocon: Spiderman pajama pants: DONE. Star Wars nightgown: DONE. Star Wars pajama pants for Beau: not done, because he doesn't seem like he wants them. Star Wars pillowcases: DONE - Deadline: January 27 (Ohayocon)
  • Make my plaid square overskirt: This is DONE (except for the decorative pocket, but its currently wearable). And I decorated the hat. - Deadline: January 27 (Ohayocon)
  • Concert tshirts throw: Started, still needs a lot of work. - Deadline: February 4

So all that's left is Star Wars pajama pants if Beau wants them, his unmentionables bag that has no real deadline and the concert throw which I need by the 4th.

To do list for Ohayocon:

  • Laundry
  • Pack
  • Go to Sally's for a hair piece
  • Work on tshirt throw
  • Finish a friend's Catwoman (the eyes need fixed)
  • I also want to sew those D rings onto the gypsy corset so its fully finished

Projects in the Pipeline - January 19 2012

As of right now, this is what I've got in the 'pipeline' as it were.
  1. Harley Quinn cuffs - They still need the Velcro and elastic
  2. Star Wars pillowcases for Beau - Cut out and pinned together. I'm using a green / black / white Star Wars flannel with black solid flannel for the flap.
  3. Spiderman pajama pants for myself - Cut out, including pieces of black flannel to lengthen the legs which had to be cut short due to lack of fabric.
  4. Star Wars nightgown for myself - Partially cut out of the green / black / white flannel, the fabric I brought to work with me today only had enough for the skirt front and back and the bodice front. I still have the sleeves and the bodice back left to do out of the fabric left at the house.
